TransSAPs - How the spatio-temporal transformation of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) alters soil processes

Laufzeit: ab 01.05.2022

Förderkennzeichen: BU 3763/1-1

Förderung durch: DFG

Kurzfassung

The project aims to investigate how and to what extent superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) can be transformed into plastic-like solid residues (SAP-SR) in soil and how and to which extent the originally SAP-related gel effect is consequently altered. Since the application objective of SAPs is primarily to optimize water holding capacity, hydraulic conductivity as well as mechanical soil stability, we will mainly focus on the modification of the respectively involved properties and processes. Since the application objective of SAPs is primarily to optimize water holding capacity, hydraulic conductivity as well as mechanical soil stability, we will mainly focus on the modification of the respectively involved properties and processes. This will enable us to understand whether the original purpose of SAPs and their typically cited benefits remain despite their transformation, or whether they are permanently reduced or even reversed into the negative. To answer the questions, experiments on the degradation and transformation of various common synthetic SAPs will be conducted under different incubation conditions and in different soils. » weiterlesen» einklappen
