The proposed initiative, "Board Games for Capacity Building in East African Schools – Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives and Applications" is designed to initiate an international and multi-disciplinary research collaboration. This endeavour is strategically positioned at the nexus of se-veral pertinent research domains as there are game-based learning, developmental and educational psychology, contemporary pedagogy (with emphases on heterogeneity, inclusion, and gender dynamics), STEM...The proposed initiative, "Board Games for Capacity Building in East African Schools – Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives and Applications" is designed to initiate an international and multi-disciplinary research collaboration. This endeavour is strategically positioned at the nexus of se-veral pertinent research domains as there are game-based learning, developmental and educational psychology, contemporary pedagogy (with emphases on heterogeneity, inclusion, and gender dynamics), STEM education, specific subject didactics (notably mathematics), and educational research grounded in the unique socio-cultural and institutional landscapes of East African nations, specifically Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. While interest in game-based learning, particularly digital forms, continues to grow worldwide, this initiative deliberately focuses on the potential of traditional, non-digital board games. These are conceptualized as highly accessible, low-cost, interactive, and potentially culturally adaptable instruments for cultivating holistic competencies ('capacity building').
