The most prominent of the insect GABA receptors is the product of the Drosophila melanogaster gene rdl (resistence to dieldrin). Opposed to the most abundant vertebrate GABA(A) receptors insect GABA receptors may form homopentameres. In preliminary experiments a construct of rdl was cloned from a cDNA library synthesized from material obtained from heads of a Drosophila melanogaster strain into a eukaryotic expression vector. Only a small fraction of HEK293 cells transiently transfected with the rdl vector and identified by fluorescence due to cotransfected EGFP (<20%) higly variably responded to GABA in the whole cell configuration of the patch-clamp technique with a small signal. » weiterlesen» einklappen
