Since 1990 the Birth Registry Mainz Model conducts epidemiological researches on causes, risk factors, and the prevention of congenital anomalies, also providing data for international projects.
The Mainz Model was launched in 1990. The primary goal of this screening project was to determine prevalences and etiological causes of congenital anomalies. The registry and its associated research are funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour, Health and Demography of Rhineland-Palatine.
