Both groups overlook the duality of simulation and programming, which are based on causality, in contrast to AI, which is based on probability. This paper develops requirements to successfully integrate both approaches. Though integration efforts have been made in recent years — as a literature analysis of simulation conferences and journals from the last 15 years with the aid of a novel, LLM-based tool indicates — a systematic approach is still largely missing. This paper is the second of three planned papers to overcome this situation. The first paper considered the simulation life-cycle to reveal the expectations of academia and practice, and how AI might help to meet them. This paper uses a survey to understand the potentials and barriers to the application of simulation and AI in practice. The third paper will discuss an AI-integration framework for simulation. Besides the results of the literature analysis and a summary of the survey, the main output of this paper is a research agenda building on these outcomes to clarify and discuss the next steps for integrating process simulation and AI.» weiterlesen» einklappen
