Accompanying scientific research for the consolidation of ‘Enabling Innovation’ in non-university research institutions (WissBEnIn).
The non-university research institutions are characterized by heterogeneous contents and structures, different research focuses and different marketability of the research results. The respective activities to promote innovation and transfer have also developed and unfolded differently. The newly developed instrument ‘Enabling Innovation’ will systematically support the transfer of knowledge and technology from non-university research institutions with the help of empirically based analysis and assessment tools. By applying for financial support from the BMBF to use ‘Enabling Innovation’, the non-university research institutions commit themselves to participating in accompanying scientific research.

The aim of the accompanying scientific research for the consolidation of ‘Enabling Innovation’ is to gain specific, theory-based and empirical insights into the conditions of use and effects of ‘Enabling Innovation’ in selected institutes of the four large non-university research institutions.

The scientific and/or technical objectives of the project initially (1) extend to the assessment of the initial situation and motivation for the use of ‘Enabling Innovation’. Furthermore (2) the fit of the method for the respective institute context and the integration of the method into the transfer-related workflows shall be analyzed. In addition (3), the effects triggered by the use of ‘Enabling Innovation’ methods during the testing and implementation process are to be measured. Finally (4), the results of the accompanying scientific research are made known to the public through publications, conferences and other media.
