Presentation of the archive and selected student works. The “core” of the z zg is the comprehensive and unique archive, “Time-based Typography – Moving Types”. Currently containing over 800 visual examples of animated typefaces and letters in film, advertising, on the internet and in public space – encompassing the inception film up to the networked and multidimensional design solutions of our times (VR/AR). In addition, the archive contains interviews conducted with protagonists of this scene. Consequentially, the archive is both a highly respected state-of-the-art compendium and who’s who of the industry; as well as a frequently cited history of visual animation from the bygone 19th century up to the beginning of the 21st century.

Workshop: From Motion Graphics to Generative Type. The Motyf symposium and art exhibition will be complemented by a range of practical workshops for students, which will bring the subject matter to life. More than 100 students from IADT and other colleges in Europe will be able to take part in workshops spanning motion graphics, augmented reality and generative type. The workshops will take place at IADT’s campus in Kill Avenue.

Workshop: Old Type – New Type: Type in Urban Space
by Prof. Anja Stöffler
An exploration of Dublin’s urban spaces according to letters, type and logo representations. The goal is documenting type with smartphones, photo- and/or video cameras. On the second day we will develop a design concept and create a short clip / loop of the material in After Effects or/and Premiere. In the evening, the clips should be projected into the outer space and brought back into the urban space.
