Inhaltszusammenfassung
Electric wheelchairs are a crucial part of everyday life for users. But besides that, they are also great mobile robotic platforms due to their driving capabilities. The latter aspect has not been considered much in research since there are significant technical hurdles, mainly the absence of an open control system. Here we present such a system. But besides that, they are also great mobile robotic platforms due to their driving capabilities. The latter aspect has not been considered much in research since there are significant technical hurdles, mainly the absence of an open control system. Here we present such a system. Our work consists of two parts. One is closely related to the technical details of electric wheelchairs and is based on a lot of reverse-engineering. The other one is more high-level, consisting of a system design that is no longer specific to wheelchairs, but can be applied to other mobile platforms as well. We equipped a wheelchair with cameras and positioning sensors to make it drive autonomously across the campus, showing that we have control over it. The proposed higher-level system design is very flexible to make it usable for a wide range of projects. As our main focus, we show how the system can be tailored to the requirements of wheelchair users. We anticipate that it will be used to create innovative user interfaces for wheelchairs in the future, improving safety, comfort, mobility and independence of users.» weiterlesen» einklappen
