Inhaltszusammenfassung

In this paper we explore the evolution of language from a constructionist, usage-based and socio-cognitive perspective. Specifically, we will look at the cognitive and social prerequisites for the evolutionary emergence of constructions. Constructions are defined as form- meaning pairings of varying degrees of schematicity and abstractness. Specifically, we will look at the cognitive and social prerequisites for the evolutionary emergence of constructions. Constructions are defined as form- meaning pairings of varying degrees of schematicity and abstractness. They are organized in complex, structured networks that enable language users to construe a situation in many different ways and from multiple perspectives – a constructicon. From an evolutionary perspective, the capacity to acquire and use such a structured inventory of constructions requires the evolution of a capacity for massive storage, the capacity to sort exemplar representations into prototype networks, as well as a capacity for complex pattern-recognition and analogy. In addition, it requires the evolution of sociocognitve capacities that scaffold and ground the acquisition and use of constructions, such as joint attention, shared intentionality, and the ability to assess common ground.» weiterlesen» einklappen
