EuroRun is the selected project of the call for the 1st Collaborative European Freshwater Science Project for Young Researchers initiated by the European Federation of Freshwater Sciences board, the European Fresh and Young Researchers and representatives of the Fresh Blood for Fresh Water meetings and funded by the limnological societies from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain/Portugal, Switzerland and United Kingdom. Recent CO2 flux estimates suggest that running waters are major CO2...EuroRun is the selected project of the call for the 1st Collaborative European Freshwater Science Project for Young Researchers initiated by the European Federation of Freshwater Sciences board, the European Fresh and Young Researchers and representatives of the Fresh Blood for Fresh Water meetings and funded by the limnological societies from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain/Portugal, Switzerland and United Kingdom. Recent CO2 flux estimates suggest that running waters are major CO2 emitters, accounting globally for approximately 70% of the total flux from inland waters. However, the magnitude and mechanisms of these fluxes are still not adequately quantified or understood, contributing to a high uncertainty in upscaling approaches. The aim of the project EuroRun is the assessment of seasonal and annual CO2 fluxes from European running waters with a team of early career scientists from all over Europe. The CO2 fluxes will be determined with drifting flux chambers equipped with CO2 mini-loggers. Within the frame of the project, the participants will join a workshop where they will build the standardized flux chambers, learn how to measure as well as to analyze the data. Following this, we will coordinate the participants to conduct measurements in their countries in several running waters within coordinated periods covering the four seasons and both at day and night.
