Moguntinone - A class of new aryl-heteroaryl-maleinemide: a innovative therapeutically option in cancer

Kurzfassung


The growth of tumors and metastases are regulated by specific enzymes called kinases. These kinases control cell proliferation, survival and apoptosis of tumor cells. Furthermore, they play a key role in the growth, stability and organization of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) that supply the tumor with oxygen and nutrients. For the treatment of tumor diseases therefore substances were developed that inhibit these kinases. For the treatment of tumor diseases therefore substances were developed that inhibit these kinases. Despite initial success, many tumors become resistant to this kind of treatment option. Thus, there is an urgent need for new inhibitors.
 
A completely new drug group based on three natural products was developed at the Institute of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Mainz. This new innovative class of substances was called "Moguntinone". Using reliable test models we showed that Moguntinones inhibit, as inhibitors of such kinases, both the formation of blood vessels as well as the growth of cancer cells significantly better than previously known drugs. In addition Moguntinones interact synergistically with the standard chemotherapy.
 
In this BMBF funded project Moguntinones are further validated in vitro and in vivo to achieve a clinical phase I study
