Components of the enthalpy budget are studied for strong baroclinic and nonstationary conditions on the mesoscale β. Divergences of the vertical turbulent flux of sensible heat are calculated as the residual of the other physical processes. For this purpose the enthalpy fluxes at the surfaces of the ice shelf and the polynya as well as the boundary layer structures above these surfaces are studied during a change of the flow field due to synoptic processes. The main results of this study are: -The dominant contribution of the horizontal advection to the enthalpy budget. -Small but not negligible contributions of the radiant flux divergence over the polynya (negligible for cloudless conditions over the ice shelf). -Vertical profiles of turbulent enthalpy fluxes over the ice shelf and the polynya. -Indications of turbulent transports in the stably stratified boundary layer and the possibility of transports with gravity waves. » weiterlesen» einklappen
