Europe can ensure a reliable, economical, and environmentally compatible energy supply by moving away from finite fossil fuels to regenerative and sustainable energy production. The extensive substitution of fossil fuels by regenerative energy sources and the associated decoupling of energy production and resource consumption takes the limitation of irreversible climatic changes as its goal. This can be achieved in particular by using photovoltaic systems and wind energy. The extensive substitution of fossil fuels by regenerative energy sources and the associated decoupling of energy production and resource consumption takes the limitation of irreversible climatic changes as its goal. This can be achieved in particular by using photovoltaic systems and wind energy. The transition from a centralized, unidirectional energy system to a decentralized, bidirectional system can be accomplished with photovoltaics and wind power. Due to the characteristics of fluctuating power generation plants, the need for storage increases but can be reduced to a minimum through energy demand reduction measures, such as general technical efficiency improvements and changes in consumer behavior, as well as through load shifting and the expansion of domestic and cross-border transmission grid capacities. In this context, sector coupling combines the electricity, heat, and transport sectors into a comprehensive system. Energy system modeling contributes to understanding and building the future energy supply system. This publication aims to develop an energy system that is 100 percent based on renewable energy by 2050. For this purpose, a complete sector-coupled energy model (UCB SEnMod) of all energy sectors is modeled, where the interaction of energy supply and energy consumption can be investigated with an hourly resolution.» weiterlesen» einklappen
