Not only historians but also literary scholars have recognized the persistence of the classical world that mesmerized American life and thought in post-Revolutionary America (see Reinhold). While some studies discuss early American Writers and their familiarity with the works of classical literature, no systematic attempt has ever been made to explore Charles Brockden Brown's intimacy with classicism.
