In light of current critical trends, this Survey reassesses Brown's role as writer of programmatic and experimental narratives. It seeks to demonstrate that his first Major novel "Wieland"; or, "The Transformation. An American Tale" (1798) is deeply embedded in Brown's questions about the socio-revolutionary America.
