Functional characterisation of rats visual system following immunization by evoked potentials

Laufzeit: 01.01.2007 - 31.12.2008

Kurzfassung

Quantification of rats’ visual function is important to estimate the impact of disease models and their treatment. The entire visual system will be evaluated by visual evoked potentials (VEPs) modulated in luminance and frequency.
An Experimental Autoimmune Glaucoma Animal Model developed at the University of Mainz will be used for this project. VEPs will be measured in cooperation with the University of Freiburg.
Groups of animals will be immunized with different antigens, including myelin...

An Experimental Autoimmune Glaucoma Animal Model developed at the University of Mainz will be used for this project. VEPs will be measured in cooperation with the University of Freiburg.
Groups of animals will be immunized with different antigens, including myelin basic protein and vimentin. Potentials will recorded by electrodes implanted epidurally over the superior colliculus and histological analysis of the retina and optic nerve will be done at the end of the study.
