A-to-I pre-mRNA editing by alpha3 subunit of the GABA(A) receptor

Laufzeit: 01.01.2007 - 31.12.2008

Kurzfassung

Adenosine to inosine (A-to-I) pre-mRNA editing by the adenosine deaminase enzyme family has been shown to selectively target genes involved in neurotransmission. Editing by adenosine deamination in double stranded RNA is essential for the development of a functional mammalian brain. Recently, a novel site of selective editing in the Gabra-3 transcript coding for the αlpha3 subunit of the GABA(A) receptor has been found by the group of Marie Öhman (Ohlson et al., 2007). We now want to explore the molecular effect of this editing especially as the enzymatic activity seems to be regulated during embryogenesis which led to the astonishing result that all cDNA derived clones seem to present the edited form. Thus, the physiological properties of the unedited form is completely unknown, a gap we plan to fill. » weiterlesen» einklappen
