Comparison of conventional static threshold estimating perimetry with the new “German adaptive threshold estimation” (GATE) strategy and the SITA standard procedure

Kurzfassung


The present research project intends to evaluate a new fast thresholding algorithm which reduces the examination time per stimulus location by taking the results of previous examinations into account The GATE algorithm is neither dependent on a stimulus grid nor on the type of the applied perimeter nor on the ophthalmologic pathologies.
Aim of the study is to compare the GATE algorithm with the conventional 4-2-1 dB thresholding algorithm and with SITA.

Primary: - Comparison of local differential luminance sensitivity (dls)
- Comparison of examination time per test point
Secondary: - Variability/ Retest Reliability
- Subjective rating
Study Design: prospective diagnostical, open, multicentric, randomised
This open diagnostical multicenter study will be realized in co-operation with:
the University Eye Hospital Tübingen (Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schiefer),
the University Eye Hospital, Freiburg (Prof. Dr. Wolf Lagrèze)
the University of California, San Diego: Prof. Dr. Pam Sample
the University of Mainz, Mainz (Dr. Esther Hoffmann)

Four different examinations will be done in randomized order:
- HFA II (SITA standard), abbreviation: SITA
- Octopus 101 (4-2-1 strategy), abbreviation: O421
- initial Octopus 101 (GATE strategy)* abbreviation: GATE-init
- regular Octopus 101 (GATE strategy)* abbreviation: GATE
