The bifid mandibular condyle represents a rare morphological change. Some reported cases are associated with a history of trauma. The bifid mandibular condyle represents a rare morphological change. Some reported cases are associated with a history of trauma. But in the majority of the published cases, there is no sign of any etiological agent. The aetiology for bifid condyles not caused by accident is controversial and not completely understood. Conditions as teratogenic drug use, genetic inheritance, endocrinological or nutritional disorders, obstructed blood supply during development, infection and exposure to radiation may all be causative factors as well as a perinatal trauma. 48 cases have so far been reported in living individuals. Bilateral occurrence of BMC is an uncommon anomaly, with only 10 cases being documented in living individuals. (Agarwal 2006).
