The application of LIBS as a spatially resolved analysis method for the determination of different phases in heterogeneous samples such as concrete offers significant advantages compared to the state-of-the-art. In order to give a detailed insight into the elemental distribution of a sample, the cross-section is scanned using a mapping raster with a spatial resolution of 100 µm × 100 µm. This makes it possible to visualize harmful elements such as chlorides that penetrate through the pore structure into the porous structure of a mineral sample. By applying statistical methods, clustering can be used to provide information about the 2D element distribution, ingress along cracks, quality of mortar covers as well as phase identification (aggregates and binding matrix). In this work the evaluation of different cement-based materials like concrete will be presented using a combination of atomic and molecular LIBS. The benefits of using different emission features in combination with chemometrics will be shown to reveal the following information: • Phase separation and mineral identification (clustering) • Quantification and 2D-elemental distribution (regression analysis) • Ingress along cracks (mapping) Various examples from R&D as well as from industrial applications that have been analyzed with LIBS will be presented. A comparison with standard techniques as reference for verification (wet-chemistry, XRF, ICP-OES) was carried out to demonstrate the reliability of LIBS.» weiterlesen» einklappen
