An apocalypse is commonly understood to mean the greatest possible disaster and horror. Biblical apocalypses do address doom, but they are characterized by a different spiritual-historical attitude: Pinchas Lapide once called apocalyptic an "endemic" disease, in the course of which the Jewish organs of hope are radically inflamed. Biblical apocalypticism grows out of the crisis, but hopes far beyond it!
