These are highly interconnected, influenced by diverse climatic conditions, topographies, and anthropogenic activities. This chapter aims to explore the status and changes in land and water resources of South Asian countries, highlighting their challenges. As per the findings, the availability and distribution of land and water in South Asia are uneven, with many areas facing land degradation, acute water scarcity due to overexploitation, over-extraction, pollution, climate change, and mismanagement. Agriculture, the primary consumer of water, significantly impacts land and water dynamics, with inefficient irrigation practices contributing to water depletion and soil degradation. Additionally, rapid urbanization and industrialization have increased the demand for both land and water, exacerbating resource pressures. Underscore the need for integrated resource management strategies that consider both land and water in tandem. It advocates for sustainable practices, the adoption of technologies and improved water governance, to enhance resource efficiency. This chapter contributes to providing a better understanding of the dynamics of land and water resources in South Asia, emphasizing the importance of collaborative, multi-disciplinary approaches to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience in the face of evolving challenges.» weiterlesen» einklappen
