Uncertainty has been associated with a state of curiosity that directs attention towards the source of the uncertainty. In an identity negative priming task, we varied the difficulty of attentional selection between the target and task-irrelevant distractors by manipulating their color congruency (same or different colors). Additionally, the uncertainty about the congruency condition was either high or low. The results revealed no significant effects of uncertainty, but the negative priming was less pronounced in the color-incongruent condition than in the color-congruent condition. The results are discussed in the context of recent findings on stimulus uncertainty and its influence on attentional processing.
