In this article, I examine al-Āmidī's chapter on time in one of his main works, the "Abkār al-afkār fī uṣūl al-dīn", discussing his exposition of Avicenna's account of time as well as his own contribution to the topic. I have prefaced my analysis with a historical outline of two important aspects which are relevant for understanding the background of al-Āmidī's discussion of time and, indeed, of any such discussion in the thirteenth century.
