The synthesis of l-azadiene Ligands bearing ferrocenyl groups either at the C- or N-terminus or on both sides of the ligand from alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes and the corresponding amine is described. The reaction of these imine ligands with Fe-2(CO)(9) produces mononuclear iron complexes of the general formula (eta(4)-1-azadiene) Fe(CO)(3). The molecular structure of one of the I-azadiene ligands as well as those of three iron complexes were determined by X-ray structure analyses.
