Many epidemiological studies have shown that moderate wine consumption reduces the total mortality particularly because of lowered rates of coronary heart disease and ischemic stroke. In this controlled randomized clinical study the medium-range effects of German wines on the risk of coronary heart disease were investigated. In this controlled randomized clinical study the medium-range effects of German wines on the risk of coronary heart disease were investigated. Three groups with 85 males between the age of 45 and 60 consumed about 0,375 liters of white wine, 0,375 liters of red wine or water daily with their evening meal fora period of 8 weeks. Within the test period there were measured specific heart-related parameters. As one of the parameters of the lipid metabolism the HDL-cholesterol showed the tendency to improve in both wine groups, whereas the HDL3-cholesterol increased strikingly Among the coagulation parameters, fibrinogen and plasminogen changed significantly in the white wine group, the amounts of thromboxane A(2) and thrombocytes tendend to change in direction of reduced coagulation in the test subjects who consumed white or red wine. White and red wine improved the antioxidative capacity in the blood. The sum of the changes in cardiovascular protective blood values, the "protective wine score: which includes ail parameters, showed a clear improvement in both wine groups. The scores for moderate wine consumption were higher than for water and white wine scored higher than red wine. Systolic blood pressure reduced significantly in the white wine group, and the diastolic blood pressure reduced in both wine groups. This study shows that moderate regular wine consumption reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. The effects of both German wines, red and white, were comparable, in some parameters white wine delivered even better results than red wine.» weiterlesen» einklappen
